Chess
(1950 - 1968)

Gospel in the 1400-1600 series
Gospel in the 2000 series
Sermons

Notes:
- Chess was the parent label of Checker and Argo (plus a few others).

- All Rev. C.L. Franklin records in the 1600 series were released twice on Chess, between brackets the earlier numbers are given. All of these sides probably feature combinations of song and sermon.

- All sermons were originally released on J-V-B. Release years for both J-V-B and Chess: early to mid 50s.

- All years given indicate when the record was released, not when it was recorded.

- A release number marked red, means that a picture is available. Click on the song titles to see it.

Chess 78rpm label colors:

The odd red label is no gospel and included here for reference only (source: Tom Kelly - Red Saunders
website, see links)

Chess 45rpm label lay-out differences and colors:

Of the above 45rpm labels, only the first and the last are gospel. The other labels are here for reference
only (source red and white label: Dr. Robert Stallworth - Red Saunders website). There's probably no gospel
released with these labels.
